Evaluation- Question 1 Source

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1) Ident
In my ident I have used rain, lightning and low key lighting to meet the conventions of the thriller genre. When comparing my ident to other professional companies eg. Disney, I feel as though my ident is rather polished.

2) Location
For the location I needed to emphasise the dark nature so I chose an abandoned army camp which is similar to the house in 'Fight Club'. The place was brilliant,as you can see from the picture there was a significant amount of wreckages in the area, the lack of lighting showed how unloved the place is which matched genre conventions.

3) Titles
I said from the start that I wanted to involve some of the titles within the film, taking inspiration from the film 'Se7ven' I identified some initial ideas. I feel that with some of my titles being used over the top of shots the piece looked a lot sleeker.

4) Slow Motion
I felt that the use of slow motion shots was a must, the technique is widely used in thriller films which left my opening as no exception. The usage of slow mo reiterates the action perfectly and allows for a lot more attention to detail, which films such as Sherlock Holmes take pride in.

5) Time
The opening focuses on time and without this focus the piece wouldn't really make sense. I did some research into the idea of time running out, a good example of this research was actually watching 'In time' starring Justin Timberlake which focuses hugely on the idea of time. I felt that this factor was not only significant to the codes and conventions but also a good way to show the plot unfolding.

6) Main Title
For this I took inspiration from Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight Rises' the main title was very simplistic but still produced a bold outcome partly down to its fading of text and sound accompaniment. As you can see my title involves both of these factor to success, the sound effects create a rather bold statement highlighting that this is the name of the film.

7) Plot/Narrative
Previous to the image my opening offers a voice over from the protagonist giving a rough insight into the narrative and what kind of events are about to take place. Following this we see the clock reforming giving a malevolent aspect. Ultimately the main plot revelation is the dramatic usage of an enigma in an apparent troubled state this (like the revelation in the Dark Knight) adds impact to the plot making the audience mellow on who the mysterious character is.
