Evaluation - Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Issues with the Preliminary tasks

Audio proved to be an issue in my Preliminary task.

Acting was not professional

Moderate Camerawork

Lack of Editing

Basic use of titles

'Zer0' Examples of improvement.

Research into an un copyrighted soundtrack which matches the action of the piece, which was timed to perfection.

Josh Slack the actor in my piece is studying A Level Drama, allowing me a professional approach in terms of character portrayal.

When filming I used a tripod making the shots more solid.

I made sure to use a wide range of editing techniques in my piece to meet the exact mark criteria, the film editing program provided me with the necessary tools to do as such.

For my final film I downloaded a font to meet the with the conventions of the thriller genre. I also timed the titles so the action onscreen wasn't obstructed.

Skills I have improved on:

For my final piece I used a variety of shots, high-low angle shots, medium shots and close ups etc.

After developing my skills in the preliminary task and throughout the research process, I honed certain camera skills which helped me perfect a selection of tracking camera shots. My insight into the technical side of things has also been improved. Originally I couldn't dream of making that kind of company logo, but with using the iMacs for such a long process I picked up certain skills.

Throughout the process making my film I used a selection of media documents eg. Scripts, Storyboards and Shooting Schedules. This proved to be really quite useful by getting perfect continuity and highlighting the plot.

Evaluation - Question 5

Evaluation - Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

To answer Question 5 I'm going to screenshot images and apply a recorded voiceover explaining how different parts of my film display genre and appeal to certain audiences. I need to clearly state who my audience is and how exactly my film attracts them.

Evaluation - Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product ?

Research and Planning

I think my film is going to be a 15 because although the film is rather abstract there is still an ample amount of violence which can seen from the opening. After doing some research I found that unless there's any sexual activity my piece can't exactly be rated an 18.

I did some research into 2 thriller products and the film certificates. One of which was a 12a whilst the other was a 15. Which means there is already an existing audience.

I found that 'The Dark Knight Rises' is rated a 12. To be honest I found this quite interesting as the film has rather significant violence.

Whereas with Limitless I agree with the certificate, the film isn't too violent but contains the usage of drugs. Language is also an element to take into consideration, depending on how strong it is the rating could be higher.

After taking the audience response into consideration I feel that my opening film would have a certificate of 15. Looking at the related products I think this is an appropriate rating.

Evaluation - Question 4

Who would be the audiences for your media product?

To fully answer this question I need to reflect back on the film I have made. I need to consider the film certificate and what my film would be. To actually get an accurate certificate I'll have to do some research into existing thriller films to compile data as to why. This will also allow me to evaluate on what my target audience is. Following this I want compose interviews which will give an insight into audience response.
